How it works in Ohio.
Municipal courts and county courts have jurisdiction. Many small municipalities instead use a mayor's court.
The BMV runs points: twelve or more within any two year period brings a Class D suspension, stated by the BMV as six months, with a warning letter once you pass five points.

A mayor may be your judge, and small tickets carry no points at all.
Ohio and Louisiana are the only states that let a mayor preside over a court, and the mayor does not have to be a lawyer. A conviction there is appealed up to the municipal or county court.
Separately, a modest speeding ticket in Ohio carries zero points: it is only two points if you are more than five miles per hour over where the limit is under fifty five, or more than ten over where the limit is fifty five or higher. Drivers routinely spend money fighting something that was never going to count against them.

What actually helps here.
A remedial driving course
Gives a two point credit.
The registrar approves only one such credit in any three year period and no more than five in a lifetime, and you must have at least two but fewer than twelve points to use it.
Checking whether the ticket carries points at all
A speeding ticket is only two points if you are more than five miles per hour over where the limit is under fifty five, or more than ten over where the limit is fifty five or higher. Below that it is zero points.

Ten days from receiving the ticket, to plead not guilty
The plea can be entered in person, electronically, or by your attorney in person or by post.
Partly, and practice varies by court
An attorney can enter the not guilty plea for you. But Crim.R. 43(A)(1) requires you to be physically present at every stage, and Traf.R. 10 requires personal appearance for guilty and no contest pleas except a written plea in absentia with consent.
